Recorded sounds may also be edited.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">recording<\/a> tool then the top of the wave will be cut off or &lsquo;clipped&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>This means that the <a href=\"https:\/\/ears2.eu\/pt-pt\/encyclopediaptpt\/smooth\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Sounds that are connected or blended together with no intervening silence. In traditional music the term legato is used. (Legato is the Italian word for &lsquo;tied together&rsquo;.)\" class=\"encyclopedia\">smooth<\/a> pattern of the wave is interrupted, thus affecting the sound that can be played back.<\/p>\n<p>Distorted sounds often appear &lsquo;fuzzy&rsquo; or &lsquo;harsh&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<h4>Distortion as a Deliberate effect<\/h4>\n<p>Distortion can be used creatively. It will add <a href=\"https:\/\/ears2.eu\/pt-pt\/encyclopediaptpt\/noise\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Objects that vibrate in a randomised fashion produce sounds that we describe as noisy. This is because the sounds produced contain a random assortment of frequencies. Advanced A term that describes sounds that have a diffuse spread of spectral energy. It is often contrasted with pitched sounds.
