Glitches are mistakes that come from technology. They might be clicks or pops on a vinyl record or tape, skips on a CD or mistakes in a digital file. Just as in Noise music, composers began to chose these unwanted ‘mistakes’ as materials for pieces of music. Sometimes composers deliberately try to break the tools that they are using in order to deliberately make them create glitch sounds.
A type of music that uses the sound of errors as material. It takes small audio artefacts traditionally considered as defects, such as clicks and through a celebratory lo-fi aesthetic, applies these sounds creatively. It is closely related to the musical ideas of Grain and granularity.
